overview :

In order to advance the advocacy for domestication and implementation of the African Charter on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol), it is relevant that a ground level awareness creation and sensitization is in place to drive policy makers to take necessary steps.
The Maputo Protocol was adopted by the Africa Union leaders on July 11, 2003, to guarantee extensive rights to women and girls, with progressive provisions on eliminating harmful traditional practices, promoting reproductive health & rights, ensuring women’s active roles in political processes, enhancing economic empowerment and ending violence against women and this has been ratified by the Nigerian government since 16 December 2004 but yet to be domesticated. WRAPA as part of the SOAWR members is engaging with relevant stakeholders, agencies, organizations & youths to give a knowledge update on the Maputo Protocol and to gain commitment & pathway for the effective implementation of the protocol for the protection of Women & Girls in Nigeria.
