According to Worldometer's elaboration of the most recent United Nations data, Nigeria's current population is 212,977,091 as of Friday, November 5, 2021. According to UN estimates, Nigeria's population in 2020 will be 206,139,589 people by mid-year. Nigeria has a population of 2.64 percent of the world's total population. Nigeria is ranked seventh in terms of population among countries (including dependent territories). Nigeria has a population density of 226 persons per square kilometer (586 people per mi2). The entire land area is 910,770 square kilometers (351,650 sq. miles) Urbanization accounts for 52.0 percent of the population (107,112,526 people in 2020) Nigeria's median age is 18.1 years. Unfortunately, Nigeria's prospects for poverty alleviation are weak. The following steps should be performed for human development: 1. Lowering the fertility rate to less than four children per woman; 2. Investing in family planning, maternal and child health, and the survival of children; 3. Education should be prioritized, particularly secondary education for girls. This helps to postpone marriage and pregnancy while also providing young people with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the workforce.
