Highlighting the Impact of Environmental NGOs in Nigeria: SRADev Nigeria

    Welcome back to NGO Spotlight Nigeria, where we shine a light on the incredible work of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across the country. Today, we are excited to feature Sustainable Research and Action for Environmental Development (SRADev Nigeria). This organization has been at the forefront of environmental conservation and sustainable development, driving impactful initiatives that have made a significant difference in the lives of many Nigerians.


    SRADev Nigeria is dedicated to promoting environmental health, sustainable development, and social equity. Their mission is to support communities and stakeholders in managing natural resources responsibly and advocating for environmental justice.


    SRADev Nigeria has undertaken numerous successful initiatives, some of which include:

    Strengthening the Phasing Out of Mercury-Added Skin-Lightening Products in Nigeria
    This project focuses on eliminating harmful skin-lightening products that contain mercury, advocating for safer alternatives and public awareness.

    Elimination of Lead in Paint
    Partnering with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), SRADev Nigeria has been instrumental in reformulating paint products to remove toxic lead content, ensuring safer environments for all.

    Support to Nigeria on Plastic Waste Control Regulation
    Addressing the plastic waste crisis, this initiative involves policy advocacy and practical solutions to manage and reduce plastic waste, thereby protecting ecosystems and human health.

    National Situation of Highly Hazardous Pesticides
    Conducting reviews and analyses, SRADev Nigeria works to identify and mitigate the risks posed by highly hazardous pesticides, promoting safer agricultural practices.


    One of SRADev Nigeria’s most impactful initiatives is the Elimination of Lead in Paint project. This project has not only brought about regulatory changes but has also significantly reduced the incidence of lead poisoning, particularly in children. The project involved extensive research, policy advocacy, and collaboration with both national and international partners to ensure the successful implementation of lead-free paint standards.
